Our Ministries

Ministry at Advent

Church of the Advent offers a variety of worship opportunities: on Sunday, there is a spoken Eucharist @ 8 a.m. and a service @ 10:00 a.m. with music and choir. On Wednesdays @ 10 a.m., there is a eucharist followed by study of the lessons for the upcoming Sunday.
Parishioners volunteer their time to assist in making our worship here an experience of quality and substance. From the quiet, behind-the-scenes service of the altar guild to the more visible acolytes and chalice bearers, the choir and the offering of the Word by a team of competent lectors and intercessors, all contribute their unique gifts to the worship experience.

If you have an interest in serving in any of the ministries described, please contact the chair of the ministry listed in the descriptions. Everyone is invited to participate in these ministries.  A monthly ROTA is prepared by Joanne Mills based on availability.

Acolytes

One Acolyte serves at the 8:00 a.m. service while four serve at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. In addition to the crucifer who leads the procession, an acolyte assists with the lighting of the candles, offering, and assists during the communion.  If you have an interest in the acolyte ministry, please contact Rev. Lynn Hade.

Altar Guild

The altar guild is made up of teams which serve for one month at a time.  Typically, three individuals take responsibility for setting up the altar for Sunday services and other occasional services.  One of those persons is responsible for the laundering and pressing of the linens.  If you are interested in this ministry, contact Jeanne Bernosky, chair of the altar guild.

The Adult Choir

Music at Advent is an integral part of the worship experience.  The adult choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings during the program year. If you would like to join the choirs, contact Barbara Johnson,  worship music coordinator.

Chalice Bearers

One chalice bearer is needed every Sunday at the 8:00 a.m. service and two are needed at the 10:00 a.m. service. A steady hand is needed! If you would like to join those who serve already in this capacity, please contact Rev. Lynn Hade.

Flower Delivery

Each week our altar is decorated with floral arrangements which are then distributed to those who are unable to be with us for various reasons.  The teams of Wayne & Lynn Sinclair, Jean Scherfcunningham, Tony Lawson, and Ellen & Rob Kavash  carry out this important and very deeply appreciated ministry.  If you have an interest in delivering flowers or would be willing to substitute for one of our regular team players, please contact Tony Lawson.

Lectors & Intercessors

Each Sunday, one lector is needed at the 8:00 a.m. service while two lectors plus one intercessor are needed at the 10 a.m. service.  This is delivering the word of God to the congregation each week and offering up the prayers of the people and prayers for the candidates at baptisms. To join the lector team, contact  Rev. Lynn Hade, Rector.

Greeters & Ushers

The greeters and ushers welcome those coming to church on Sunday.  This is a meet & greet function including passing out bulletins, bringing up the gifts, collecting the offering, and assisting at communion.  The earlier service utilizes one or two people to help while the 10:00 a.m. service needs four to six greeters and ushers.
